Goddard
by Kuba Chruszczewski
G&H Sedge (from the names of authors John Goddard and Cliff Henry), is one of the most popular caddisfly imitations. Widely known, abbreviated by Polish fly fishermen as Goddard, "scarlet', or "sickle", it is very effective in sizes 14-10. In the autumn, the little ones on 16 or even 18 hooks can be deadly. And I also happened to perform this fly on "dry" salmon hooks #4 and #2 - these went to Mongolia, where they are used to catch Lenoki.
Here's G&H Sedge in a few steps:
1.On the entire length of the hook shank I apply coils of leading thread.

2.I tie the first bundle of deer hair, tightly, so that it is arranged around the shaft.

3. I push the coat hard to the left.

4.I proceed in this way until the entire shank is covered (leaving space for the blackberry). Each time I tie the hair tightly - this procedure is very important.

5.I turn the vice, shave the hair from underneath....

6....i on the sides.

7 It's time for the torso. I weave dubbing into the split thread. I need to get a section about twice the length of the intended torso.

8.I pull the material along the fly backwards,

9.nawracam pod skrzydełkami i po drugiej stronie z powrotem do przodu.
10.I tie with several threads of thread. This is how it should look from the bottom.

11.Now the final haircut.

12.I tie the feelers from thin stakes, and the feather on the blackberry.

13.Blackberry, shellac for the head, antennas cut. Can be tied to the leader.
