In P&L No. 28, I mentioned Olivier van Noort’s publication (Description du pénible voyage fait autour de l’univers, Amsterdam 1610), which contains the oldest drawing I know of an artificial lure made of feathers—one that can be considered a variant or prototype of the modern streamer. Since I previously had no way to make a copy of the illustration, I included a hand-drawn sketch made in the library—which, of course, was far from perfect. Thanks to advances in digital technology, this rare publication is now available in electronic form, and it is now possible to present a fragment of this illustration, which clearly shows people in boats fishing with these lures
